How to price your item Pricing your item can be a very tricky thing to do. You don't want to charge to much and then find that nobody will bid to your reserve price. However, if you are selling collectibles, antiques or other such items rather than more mainstream items (electronics etc.) then you don't want to price the item too low or possible bidders may think that at such a low price there must be something wrong with the item. Before you list your item check what prices similar items are fetching on the online auction site you use. It is also a good idea to check how much you would have to pay for the item in a bricks and mortar shop or online. For antique or collectible items check first for what bids similar or even identical items are fetching first. You may want to consider asking for a professional valuation if the item is extremely rare, however, for the average item this would not be necessary. Also consider asking other traders what the item may be worth. Many factors effect the price of what you're selling but the two most important are: Condition- If the item is in good condition then it will fetch a higher bid than one that is in poor condition. Demand/Supply- If you are selling an item that has a high supply then you'll find your item taking in lower bids with a possible exception being if the item has an demand as high or higher than the supply. Likewise if the supply of your item is low but the demand is higher than the supply you will receive higher bids. However, some low supply items simply have low demand so selling items with low supply does not necessarily mean you'll receive higher bids. However, at the end of the day it's what you want to sell the item for that matters. Regardless of the current market value of the item it's up to the seller to determine the price. Try to avoid becoming emotionally attached to whatever you're selling and then asking far too much for it. But also ensure that you do not ask for too little and wind up making little or no profit whilst the buyer walks away with an excellent bargain. |
